a question with probably a million answers but here goes anyway:
How long (milage or years) can you expect a disco to last?

Bare in mind the following:

I've got a mechanic in the family (thank God..saved me a few £!:yay: )
I'm not planning on using it for off roading (may change if I get a pay rise)

I was looking for a 95(ish) disco but I've been told that for my budget (£2500) I should be looking at a 91-93 200 series.

any idea??

I was in a friends garage today who was working on a customers 200 tdi that turned out to be for sale.
From memory it was a 5 door 7 seater in grey(metallic)
Blue interior with I think 135k on it.
Price that was mentioned was around 1600 pound, if anyone is interested I could maybe get a number.

Can I please just point out though that I am in no way connected to this vehicle so am unable to answer any questions or vouch for its condition, my personal feelings were that it appeared a fair deal?

You can pick up a very nice early disco for around £2500 Dont go the same way I did and spend a fortune on a later 200TDi and ignore the early ones in good nick...cost me about £2500 in two years in repairs! Newer isnt always better.
If its an early model that has done between 120,000 miles upwards, that it has a nice sounding gearbox and its easy to put into gear, If not leave it well alone, if it has had a replacement gearbox you should be ok. If it has had a replacment transfer box, find out if it has had a cross drilled transfer gear. Also check to see when the cambelt was last changed and get proof. coz if its needing a new one it can cost upwards of £150 and its not a job for the faint hearted.
Also look out for uneven tyre wear, the usual oil leaks and make sure it sits somewhat square on an even surface.
Make sure you take it for a long test drive or if in doubt take along a mechanic from your local Landy dealership (some mechanics will do anything if you offer a bob or two!) or someone who knows what they're looking for.
I have friends (yes its true I do..well only when I have money!) that have had 'G' plate dicsos with 200,000 miles on the clock and they never miss a beat and then theres mine!!!!!! Less said the better!!:buck:
Good luck
