Whose up for a caravan/landy rally then. :yay:

A weekend of visiting each others van and landys on a nice Camp site, with a bottle of real ale in hand, and the women doing the BBQ :D

Probaly best place somewhere in middle England, but somewhere nice and quiet and countryfied :p
Perhaps a Bank Holiday weekend.......and some off-roading too :dunno1:

Any ideas, suggestions ?

Discuss ....:)

I'm up for that:yay: Of course I just happen to live in the middle of England so might I suggest the Peak District. Do you want a camp site or something like Hartington Quarry that my club, Buxton & District LRC hire. I could make enquiries, and I'm sure Si-Guru will be up for arranging a greenlaning run.

cheers, Tim

Would be good if Steve can get involved too :)

There is actually a camp site on the opposite side of the road from the quarry, but I don't know what it's like. The off roading in the quarry is pretty good, some easy stuff and some stuff you really don't want to attempt without a Roll Cage:icecube: and some in between stuff too.

The Quarry does have running water and a lovely large flat grassy area for 'vans and tents, so apart from the lack of toilets and a club, it does make an excellent camping place.

Remember the dead chicken/bag of rubbish piccy? That was taken in the area we use for camping, and I do have some pics of the off roading in the quarry if you want to see them.

cheers, Tim

Exact location of Hartington Quarry - SK 159 566 on OS map (119 Landranger)

Just edited - wrong map number - thinking of my Landy's wheelbase - sorry:goofylook

OldFart

Quarry sounds good, but i'm sure some folks would at least be looking for loo's and possibly showers, specialy for the kids .......not bothered about clubs on site though, in fact we always avoid sites that have them :snarl:

More ideas please.....:)

The camp site across the road from the quarry is Rivendale(if my memory serves me correct) its nice, got all the mod cons and I think its around £10-£15 a nite with elec,I will check on that im sure ive got a leaflet about them.

Excuse me for stating the obvious, and I realise there's no big off road course without booking in advance, but Billing is fairly Mid-England, and has all the facilities you could want. They are only ever full to max when the LR show is on.
Mind you this is Macbeth.com, so somewhere along Hadrians Wall is probably more convenient for the majority. :p

OldFart
11th Mar 2004, 08:27
Was really just hoping for somewhere nice and quiet, and even better if we had a field to ourselves. it'll be bad enough with Tim plodding up and down the campsite trying to get tired enough to get to sleep :D ....so Billing for me is'nt an option.
Being not too far south of Hadrians wall does make it easiar for the Scots to travel, after all you could be looking at 6/7 hours of driving coming down from the North :yikes:

SVENUK
11th Mar 2004, 15:59
Where ever you want to hold it , it will be a good 3-4 hours drive north or south to cover most of the forum members
Even at a legal speed it will take you 3 .5 hours to do 200miles .

I promise I will drink enough ale to make me sleep:hahaha:

Ripon area sounds good to me, not to far from here but a hell of a trek from the south west if any one wants to head up from there. 'tis a snag with this country, it's too long and thin and I live in the middle:yay:

Ha, I resemble that remark!
I've just been trying to phone you O/F but you are permanently engaged...............

Know just the place, 4* campsite behind my local, with Black Sheep Ales not 10 minutes from the brewery and 5 minutes from the longest highlevel moorland greenlane in the country. Will that do?
Remember Riggwelter should not travel more than 40 miles for full effect.....:beers:

Ok, as requested, suggested campsite is here (http://www.geocities.com/theblackswan_uk/)

a flavour of the lanes can be found on page 50 of the march edition of LROi (note of caution though, a couple of small bits they drove are locally contentious, sensitive and open to 'interpretation' on their legality). :argue:

For those of thee without LROi heres a few photos of 'George' out and about in the area:

I like the idea of Riggwelter being on tap and Green Lanes on the doorstep :yay:

So now we need to know how many are actualy interested, and whether the August Bank holiday would suit.

If you do decide on Ripon, there's a damn good ice-cream shop in Ripley (about 4miles south on the A61)
It does a various array of flavours;
Apple Pie, Cinder Toffee, Turkish Delight & Orange Chocolate (to name a few)

The sizes vary from 50p cone up to a KFC sized bucket (feeds one)

Also in Harrogate (south of Ripon on the A61) there's a main dealer for Britains finest sports cars - I always stop there & drool on them

Hey Ho!

No need to go to Ripley, ice cream (http://www.abmoore.sagenet.co.uk/default.htm) can be found much nearer to the campsite. Look under Products.:derr: Brymor supply all the local attractions including Ripley.

For those that prefer their teashops here (http://www.middlehamonline.com/the%20Nosebag.htm) is the family favourite in Yorkshires 'Newmarket', well worth a visit.

If it's a choice i would go to the Rivendale site next to the Hartington Quarry because it's only 130 instead of 216 miles and there seems to be more space.

Ripon for us please, as it suits us and hopefully a few of the Scots could make it too.

I'll more than likely toodle down one weekend before Sept anyway if only to peruse Tims new van :p
It seems we're mostly agreed that Black Swan is ok but I suggest we all book seperately and pay our own individual deposits.
Perhaps when booking we could have a common booking name ie LAND ROVER Club meet ....that way we'd be assured of all being close by or next to each other in a group but no single person being responsible for payment :dunno1:
