Our local landrover club got together on sunday, the usual assortment of defenders, disco's and series vehicles.
One of the members works for Landrover here in S.A.

It seems two of the pre production discovery's are here being put through their paces.

The local conditions here have identified some major problems with the suspension set up,plus a few other problems with the vehicle.

We couldnt get too much info out of the person concerned, except that the two rear seats fold into the floor pan,and when they are used, the area where the seats fit into give more leg room for the occupants.

Me: "Is this the new Discovery then?"

Them: "Maybe.."

Me: "Do you know when the launch date is?"

Them: "Dunno..."

Land Rover are so inconsiderate. They are releasing pictures of this early next month so the magazines don't want my pics. :p

I asked them similar questions Stephen and I was told in no uncertain terms to mind my own business!!
I think I suprised them by saying that Its a nice jag engine under the bonnet and asked them if it was going to be a big launch in october?
They got a bit spooked and drove off! Think they thought I was press!
I think I spooked them even more when I followed them all the way to Perth (on my way home to Aberdeen).
Hehehe!

It sounded like a big Jaguar engine when it drove off. :) (straight 6 petrol?)

I'm starting to like it :p

I wasn't at all sure about the spy shots I've seen previously in mags and on the web -- but either it's growing on me or they've been changing things a bit :p

The split level roof is real smart IMHO and really sets the Disco apart -- it's even more surprising that they've decided to drop it as I seem to remember that a big play was being made not so long ago about the fact that they were going to keep it

I think the split level roof may be hidden under the cardboard. :p

Looks like they are gonna change their minds...unless....It is a cunning plan on the part of Landrover and just before they release the pictures they change the roof!!!!!!....not likely! If anyone from Landrover is reading this (again not likley!) bring it out with the split level roof...pleeeeze!:buck:
They have also done away with the rear door and...wait...hang on a minute....its a slightly different shaped Rangie...isnt it??:dunno1:

There is a slight kink in the roof but not much. At first I thought it was a flat roof but it wasnt until i got closer that i noticed the slight contour. There isnt much of one tho and it doesnt really set it apart much from the Rangie. I followed it for approx 3 hours and after a while I had to keep telling myself that what was in front was a Disco as the back door and styling that you could see screamed Rangie

as the back door

The back has changed a lot from the last set of pics I saw.

Here's one:

You gotta admit tho its nice to dream about owning one...well it is for me anyhow...I will stick to my 200TDi until Tutors wages have a significant boost!!
Joking apart, I like the design of the new disco and I suppose we would all get stuck in our ways if the designers in Solihull sat back and produced one thing the same as another. Times change and so do tastes and we gotta catch up and adapt!
Woah that was a bit philosophical for a wednesday night!!:p
So if anyone is feeling a bit generous in October and they dont mind making a failed philosopher very happy you can contact me on 079..........
Hehehe!

if you look closely in every single unaltered picture of a the new discovery - you can see the split level roof is hidden by the big runners of plastic along the top.

i've been saying that from the start.

Until you pointed it out I hadn't really noticed these plastic runners, but they're dead obvious in Stephen's pics.

They have to be there for a reason -- but is it to diguise the split level roof or that there isn't one :smart:
