View Full Version : Poor Starting

I have a 1995 series 300TDI Discovery with intercooler and over the past few weeks I have experienced problems starting, but only in the morning or after a long period without starting.
I have replaced the lift pump, changed the battery, changed the heater plugs and heater plug relay. All these made no difference at all, I have just had a non-return valve fitted to the fuel line, before the filter, this has given a slight improvement.
My local dealer is suggesting that I now change the manual injector pump, which is an expensive item and with no guarantee that the problem will be sorted.
Can anyone suggest an alternative or confirm his theory, also a good reliable source of cheaper parts.

Have you had the injectors checked incase one has failed or is partly blocked?
I know you have changed the heater plugs and relay but is there any volts going to the relay/plugs as it does sound like the problem is in this area.

Let us know how you get on.

The garage who I am dealing with has sent for a set of injectors, with the intention of fitting them temporarily to see if any improvement takes place. If this works then my injectors are to be serviced and re-fitted.
By the way, as the milder weather has come there has been a slight improvement in the starting

A new fuel pump has been fitted, the old one had 2 broken springs in it, it starts with no problem at all now. In fact there is no need for the pre-heat light to go off, it starts at the first turn of the key.
Thanks for your interest.
