Hi, all.

After finding-out that my local Morrison's (Chippenham, Wiltshire) isn't stocking B30 (for now), I'm trying to work-out an alternative, without making my own.

I think the best I can aim for is 50/50 bio/standard diesel, due to potential starting problems in the Winter.

I have a 1996 Disco 1 (300tdi), can anyone tell me what the highest blend is, that I can use, without modifying my vehicle? I've read that some hoses may need to be changed on some vehicles (possibly before 1995), and replaced with synthetic hoses.

I also read that I will need to change my fuel filter after the first or second tank, of bio (happy with this).

Any advice (and stockists) appreciated.

Cheers,

Chris.

B30 is already a blend. It's 30% bio 70% mineral diesel.

Are your talking about making bio-diesel or are you just talking about blending new vegetable oil with mineral diesel? As there is a *big* difference.

Anyway...

B5 is the suited to vehicles without modification, that is a 5% blend with mineral diesel.
"All private and commercial vehicle manufacturers have approved the B5 (5%) Biodiesel blend within mineral diesel."
In fact I think there is legislation coming to incorporate B5 at all diesel pumps.

Thanks for the reply. I want to get Bio from a pump, and not make it myself. I'm aware that B30 is an indication of the mix, and understand that it is now a legal requirement for all vehicle fuel to have 10% bio in them, and I believe, 50% by 2015.

I'm just wondering what is available up to 50% bio, and where I can get it in the Chippenham/ bath area. As stated, I don't really want to modify my Landy.

Cheers,

Chris.

Hi all

I am new here, from Cape Town and I have endlessley being looking at this water for petrol hydro conversion www.water4petrol.net that seems to me as the only people who has a product like this in SA.

I need any help and answers as I really do want to change my vechile to whichever one , bio diesel or the hydro fuel mix into intke with excisting fuel.

I just don't have a big space to filter my own oil, or the mechanic bakground to see problems.

I do know that I have had my Landy for 3 years and has put it to the test in the Cederberg area ( most beautiful in the world) and that Td5 has never ever dissapointed me. And I have had many 4x4 ( land cruisers that has dissapointed me)

So I do not wnat to mess with my Landy, but I do want to make a difference for the enviroment. Can I put clean new veg oil into tank mixed with diesel? Can it run purely on the veg oil? is the hydro why safe ...cause it looks dam convinient. Or do we wait for batteries. I saw that "who killed the electric car" and there was a Ford Explorer that was electric plug inn abd I think that one is heavier than my Disco.

Lets do this. Just which way?

Thx all

FaceliftJust trying to get the link working.

Edit: it now does in my quote above - remember to make sure to leave spaces either side of a linked address, or it won't be seen by the code as a link.

I just had a quick look on the link, and wonder why someone would try to advertise a high value product and slap a pasword protection system on it to prevent potential customers eeing anything about it. It has an odour of "huile de serpent" about it, though.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about the environmental imapct of your Discovery - its emissions are reasonable and LRs last longer than most cars. They also use faw fewr harmful materials than most "green" cars. If you're worried about global warming, don't be - it's just a big con to sell you crappy cars, double glazing, overpriced organic food and new domestic appliances, raise your taxes, charge you more for fuels and electricity and make you happier about giving up any pass-times the authorites decide they don't like.

The Hydrogen generator is a con. I'd stick to making biodiesel or using SVO.

Hi everyone.

I have been struggeling to get info and possibly a pump station that can supply with biodiesel in Cape Town. I do not have the space or premises
to make my own.

Along with my search I have had many who said I would not want to know
what biodiesel would do to the inside of my Td5 enjin. I Thought they are full of crap.

But not knowing where to go or ask, I need your help and info + confirmation
that my Disco Td5 will do fine and waht is best reccomended. I am currently
running my enjin on normal diesel mixeb with a SABS approved combustion
enhancer "Naftech" that is saving me fuel and it is more green cause it burns most fuel (instead of just 30% without)

But I thought why not move away from petroleum completely and run biodiesel. Check out the Naftech. Most big fleet truck and boat companies use it.

Cheers

Hi DF, I wouldn't go beyond 80% veg oil, as I believe the injector pump drive shaft is prone to failure on anything more viscous.
Work up gradually, starting at 50% and see how it goes, at present veg oil is dearer than dino diesel, so I'll be going back to the pump!
Chris, if you can get used oil, just filter it down to 1 or 2 microns, ensuring that you discard the bottom 50mm or so that will contain (possibly) water and other nasties.
Best to pre-mix veg oil and diesel before adding to tank.
Mike.
