I have a 1997 1.8 petrol freelander.
Apart from failing emmissions test recently it has been running fine.
However the other day after stopping for a few minutes and leaving the engine running , it cut out on me, and now we can't get it to start.
Battery is fine, yes there is fuel in it.

Any ideas please?

Assuming the timing belt is OK, it sounds like it's overfuelling. Take the spark plugs out and look at them, are they wet and black?. It's a very common problem on K series engines, we get it quite often on cars tthat have been stood on the pitch and just moved about from time to time.

Thanks for your reply. Have looked at the spark plugs and they are dry.

had the same problem earlier this year, the dizzie cap was badly worn on the inside. I replaced cap and rotor arm and car started first time.
