View Full Version : Can't disengage diff lock

I engaged my diff lock today, as I normally do if I haven't used it for a while, and took a slow drive round the block. When I swapped it back into high range, whilst stationary on the driveway, the light on the dash doesn't go out so it looks like I am stuck with the diff engaged.
Can anyone offer any remedies for the consummate novice or is this likely a garage job?

The drive train is still wound up. Try reversing for a fair distance, if that doesn't work, jack up one wheel and stand back....

Cheers Chris. I will give it a go now and report back.

Didn't get more than 10ft and it went out. I had already tried reversing a little before I posted, but obviously not enough. Thanks again.

There is no physical link between the lever and the lock, it relys on spring pressure to engage and pull out, you just need to take any load away.
Usually, a nice stead drive in a straight line lets it go.

Chris's advice to Templar totaly sorted me today with a diff lock I could not disengage. I read his posting and stopped crying - went out and set the diff into the high gear position- put it in reverse and rolled it back and then in first forwards and off went the light! My day was going so badly until then.
Thanks
