'02 Disco II, Rear Door Will Not Open

I have a 2002 Discovery II in which the rear door will not open. It will not open from either the inside or outside. The latch appears to work, as well as the door lock actuator. Am I missing something here? Is there another way to open the door? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve

Hi

You need a new door latch/solenoid. If you mean the tail gate, this is a common D2 failure. A new one is about £50 and an easy fix. Mine failed on my TD5 just after I got it.

You could try flicking the bottom of the handle multiple times in quick succession with your finger tips. I got mine open like this. It was only good for a couple of goes though. Not a long term solution by any means.

The unit is sealed so doesnt respond to any lube.

I was worried about getting it open again to do the repair when my new one arrived.

I took Andymach's advice about flicking the handle about 6 months ago,once it opened gave it a good old squirt of W.D.40,and "touch wood",its been fine since.:D

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the advice my 51 plate TD5 had the same problem today and your advice allowed me to get into the boot again. I will see how it goes before spending on the new part.
