Hi Everyone

I was towing my 20 ft boat home today for the winter. The rig is about 1600 kg. Everything was going great until I pulled away at traffic lights to cross a junction. I pulled away in first with plenty of revs, nothing excessive though, then went to select 2nd, and it wouldn't go in. I tried the other gears and couldn't get any. The lever could move side to side ok but wouldn't move forward or back into any of the gears. I tried de-clutching and still nothing.

I was coming to a slow stop and was begining to panic as the boat was still across the junction. I thought the gear box had died.
When I came to a stop I was able to select the gears as normal and then drive away as if nothing had happened.
I was pretty nervous for the rest of my trip home.
The car has 125k and has no other gearbox or clutch issues. I changed the gearbox oil a few thousand K ago to the LR spec oil.

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers
Andy

Could it be a clutch issue?

I've had a look at the master cylinder for leaks and it is bone dry. I'm pretty sure that the level in the resevoir hasn't dropped.

I'll hopefully get a chance to check the slave cylinder later.

Cheers

could be master cylinder loosing pressure from front seal and oil go back in resevoir
