Hi All.

Got a problem that suddenly appeared while going down a country lane on my way home. Most awfully buzzy grinding noise from what sounds like front right side of the engine bay, near the drivers side front wheel.

Particuarly bad under slow menouvour / hard steering lock but present standing still (allthough quiet) in time with the engine tickover. Also seems to get louder in reverse!

Any ideas? Going to take it to my local dealer tomorrow if I can't figure it out.

It drives fine, steering feels fine etc etc. Just this horrific grindy buzzy noise (best way to explain it!)

When on tickover standing still - if I rev the car.. it buz/grinds much louder (almost like something catching type sound) as the revs fall, then goes quieter again!

Alternator bearings, water pump? check for play in any of the pulleys. Although a dealer visit may be a good move :)

Spoke to my father who's also had a FreeLander 1 (now has a FL2) and he told me to check the drivers wheel arch lining - apparently his warped and started catching on the pullys a while back.

Voila - exactly the same. Problem solved with a bit of shuving it back. :D

You mean the small panel that screws to the body and clips behind the undertray? Yes, quite common after a service.
