Only got the car today and it looks like problems already.
Help any one who can.
It’s a 1999 TD5.
The problem is, when travelling at 60mph in 5th the temp gauge sits perfectly in the middle and the engine is fine but when you want to speed up a little the problems start. It will accelerate but the temp gauge follows at about the same sort of speed until its just below the red hot and then the engine loose all power until the temp has dropped again and then its fine again. Please help.

I agree Head Gasket Failure. Ihad the same on my 99MY TD5. Would be fine until you gave it some wellie then I'd lose coolant out the expansion tank overflow and top radiator hose would be rock hard.

Depends if you want to tackle it yourself or get it done for you.
DIY, a few hundred quid plus a day's work and plenty of confidence to carry out what amounts to open heart surgery on your car. You might find other things along the way that are worth doing at the same time too.
If you get it done, it'll probably run to a couple of thousand as if a workshop finds other issues they'll probably want to rectify them to ensure the gasket doesn't let go again.
Warranty........doubtful. Gaskets are a bit of a grey area but might be worth a try.

Phew! - well done! For a moment there, I thought that we were heading for another "It Lasted Two Days... (http://forum.landrovernet.com/showthread.php?t=131723)" thread.
Who was the garage?
