i at present have an "86" landrover 90 and i am looking at getting a discovery as well for the longer runs, looking at a 1995-1997 model 2.5 300tdi
can anyone help me with what sort of things should i be looking for with regards to problem areas and faultgs to look for
any help would be great
cheers
There are a number of posts on the forum about this subject, try a few search strings.
I'm fairly new to Disco's, bought mine about 18 months ago, but think it's the bees knees.
Generic probs that I'm aware of
Leaking sunroof (Lessened the ingress on mine - but its not "fixed")
Boot floor rotting out.
Scabby rust in rear door shuts
Door locks not unlocking with remote (are the rears an MOT fail? - don't ask why I want to know this!)
Window regulators rotting away - clunking when winding up
Rust, rust and more rust - waxoyled by PO would be a bonus
Bi-metallic corrosion on doors - where frame meets skin
Spider - something to do with the alarm/imobiliser systemDon't buy the first one you go to see, buy on condition - not mileage or year.
Try and get someone who knows what's what to go and look with you - maybe someone on the forum will offer.
There are a lot around, for not a lot of money, some good, some bad.
Good luck in your search.
Cheers

Additionally:
Rust on rear door shuts at base of C pillar is a potential MOT fail but repairable for about £200
Rust on inner front wings especially drivers side (within 30cm of brake servo) - potential MOT fail
Rusty sills - MOT fail
Rusty tubular crossmember (holes) - MOT fail
Rusty body mounts (near rear wheel area) - MOT fail
Rusty brake pipes - MOT fail
Blown head gasket - water in oil / oil in water / bubbles in header tank / low coolant level
Excessive noise from transfer box - although they often whine a bit
Difficulty in selecting 2nd gear / crunching noises (possibly clutch or even the box failing)
Loose steering / bearings - especially swivel bearings & spheres on front
Condition of cambelt (£200 garage job typically)
Squeaky / leaky water pump and 'P' gasket
HTH

And when you have found your disco with none of the above, remember to get the radio code and also the locking wheel nut tool.
It's only that I have seen a few threads on "I got my disco but how do I " etc. etc..

well i have seen six discoverys this weekend and still no joy as of yet
I wish when people were selling they got the details correct
One guy said had just passed a mot and had £600 spent on it.
getting brakes done welding, and timing belt and service recently
Belt was done 25k ago
Oil was as thick as tar/ filter was holed when oil hot
Discs wherebadly rusted at edges and pads were down to the metal
Meant to have climate pack but needed gassed up
Would have helped if the compressor had been fitted so that may be the leak.
the only one that i was going to part cash with as looked a minter. my mate wasn't to sure about the V5/ details so made a few checks. and found out it wasnt the year it was meant to be turned out to be a early 98 not a 95. so two of his traffic colleagues are speaking to the guy when we left.
could go on. may have to up the budget a wee bit
The search continues
