hi all, just got me first Freelander.

2001 TD4 BMW engine?

How much of this beast of an engine was made by BMW?
some say its a mix of old Rover and BMW.
Or is it all a BMW engine.

Thanks

Hi there,

My understanding is that the pre TD4 engine was made by rover and then the Td4 was worked on by both Rover and Bmw... I'm sure Templ4r will be able to tell you pretty much anything about these engines but im afaird I cant help you. Try doing a search on the web as I'm sure there must be some information out there that can give you what ever you need to know....

The TD4 diesel engine was soursed from BMW and was used on the 3-series i believe. But at the time BMW also owned rover and the TD4 was also used in the rover 75.Lawson

That's right, it's the same engine (though differently tuned) that was used in the BMW 320 and the Rover 75.

It's a BMW engine.

Got the new baby Landy home today.

I know it seems unlikely, but it has done only 28,000 miles on a 2001 plate.

All service history from new from Hunters at Derby. runs great so far, all tight and like new inside......seems as if its been on the school run only.

New air flow meter fitted as it was sluggish....cost over £300 for this job.

i'm just loving it at the moment.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

It's the M47 BMW engine, the RR is the 3 lt M57 or the 2.5 M51

The earlier 2lt BMW M41 wasn't common rail.
