Can I go to France with just my picture drivers lisence?

You will also need a copy of your insurance, your V5 and MoT. It's also worth having a European Health Insurance Card, or whatever it's called - it's the replacement for the E111 card that guarantees you'll get health treatment should you need it.

Thanks Snagger, I will be a little more specific, I'm not driving, its that my passport has expired, and kinda lost in my house!
So can I enter France on my drivers photo ID and more importantly, leave!??

You will need a valid UK passport unless you have a French or Belguim national I.D card.

As for getting back into the UK without a passport... I have seen it done and it is ridiculously easy to blag. The guy left the UK without a passport in back of a van. I met him on his way back in. Just claimed he lost his passport, the French didn't care a jot and told him he will need to report it on his return to the UK. In the UK, driving out of Dover port, the passport check said "lost your passport? you reported in France?" said yes and let us through easy as that.

In my experience the french dont check on the way into France, its the british that check it on the way back. Blagging prob wont be an issue, I'll be ****ed as a fart coming back through :)

Sorry, I thought you meant for driving.

The only ID that UK Immigration accept is a passport, and you should not be accepted back into the UK without a valid passport. This only applies to non-UK and Ireland, however, no airline will accept you without a valid passport (even domestically), and I doubt ferries or EuroTunnel will either.
