My Freelander TD4 Y reg has a leaking injector. This has caused all the plastic surrounding to melt. It is a mess to say the least. I have now been told that the repairs will cost £3,600 - yes £3,600 - because it will need a new cylinder head and 4 new injectors as well as the surrounds.
As the car is probably only worth £5,000 at most, this seems like extortion. Can anyone give me some advice?

That is VERY expensive. I would recommend taking it to a smaller independent garage.
given the value of the vehicle, I would source a second hand engine from the web and pay a small independent garage to swap parts over as necessary. D..

It's probably blown the seal at the bottom of the injector. The seat can be recut if it's not too bad, then a thicker washer is fitted.
The plastic surrounding the injector is the intake manifold and the camshaft cover.
Get a second opinion and parts off a siezed engine from a breakers.
