I've got a 2001 Freelander TD4 which has done 90000miles. Recently I've started hearing a random matallic "clunk" which appears to come from about midway(behind the driver's seat) off-side. It doesn't seem to happen at a specific moment and at first I thought it was something rolling about. It seems completely random. Anyone any ideas please?

PS. Just been out in it(50 Miles) and seems mainly to occur in low gear/low speed situations.

Check the rear diff, the front mounting breaks away. Usually clunks when you pull away or change gear.

If it's more a metallic clunk behind the drivers seat, it usually knocks going round corners, the front mounting on the rear subframe is cracking the chassis. look for a rusty mark between the frame and chassis member.
