I cant believe it, I have been on the net all week looking for a site like this. I am going to look at a 1998 Freelander 2.0 xedi tomorrow, can anyone give me advice on what to look for and things that I need to check for, does it have a cam belt ect. Also what are they like off road, I need to tow a trailor around a field as well as getting the missus to work.

welcome to the forum.....

Freelanders are great for what they are, I should know as I have one...the passion soon turns into a 'real' landrover obsession, then your'll want a defender (cant wait to get mine face)

Good luck and enjoy

Good job you didnt get it... It would have had a clapped clutch, would have dodgy steering, (Not from off road, but up the kerb) covered in nail polish, headlining stuck up with hairspray, no oil in the engine (or like one we looked at..Oil in the master cylinder, and water in the engine. True..one lady owner...) and the speedo was stuck. (wearing cynical face today)

Nah...joking aside.... If its for ye, it'll not go by ye.

HOWEVER.....

A few years ago we saw a car that was towed into the garage by the womans husband. It was about six months old. The engine was so hard to turn over, it was unbelievable..we thought she had seized it. Turns out the sales rep had shown her where the oil filler cap was, and the dipstick, and told her to keep an eye on the levels. If it needed topping up, to just add a bit of oil.

She religiously checked the oil, and added oil every week. It was so full of oil, it was no wonder it wouldn't turn over!

I used to do some work for a car hire company. We had a woman come in from a drive from Glasgow. The car was red hot, smelled real hot like, you know? Could fry an egg on it.

She went to the manager and played merry hell with him, the car was gutless, it wouldn't go at 60 mph on the faster stretches of road, and when she tried it screamed real loud. She had done the whole journey in 2nd gear because she thought it was an automatic....

To be fair though... I know a man who had a leak in his rad...we told him to crack an egg in it to get him home, then get it sorted. He chose to ignore the 'get it sorted' bit, and put an egg into it every couple of days. Bloomin car was eggbound as well as rot bound...

But...I digress...

Thanks for the welcome and emails, yes I did buy it:). Just got to fit a tow bar and look out Sat, hook up the trailor and set out the shoot ready for Sun, no more putting out the traps by hand. ( I sure we might find time to drive around the tracks and field a bit as well):):)

Have not got a name for it yet but at the moment we are calling it after the reg.
