hi my mate has a 300 disco on the r plare and on his way home tonight he has lost drive no gears at all but clutch pedal seems fine but you can put the gear stick in all 5 positions with out clutch while engine is running,you can hear a distinctive grinding gear when in gear and clutch is releast.have tried transfer box in low and high still nothing could this be the transferbox that is shafted anyone got any ideas please

Could be the transfer box input gear.

id say either input gear as swingletree says or see iff it moves iff you select diff lock . iff it does will be a drive shaft or more likely a c.v gone .. alan

If you doublecheck neither propshaft is turning, then I'd go with Swingle, the splines on the gearbox output/transfer input rust up and wear.

Hi Mattay,
What was the result of the trip to the garage as my disco done a very similar thing but with no grinding noise when in gear:(

Hi Greg

Yes got it fixed it was the gear box and not cheap m8 so goodluck fella there is a few things that can go wrong though .
