hello everyone:) ,engineer turned up to look at my td5 missfiring engine.pluged in his box of tricks and said "fuel pump is naff" then popped bonnet removed covers and did some more checks and said "fuel pumps naff" then went back to his box of tricks and check for error and the log Can you beleive not one error logged.again he said "fuel pump is naff"
so it sounds as if the fuel pump is nackered then.
he explained when you first switch on ignition the car carries out system check and the fuel pump is priming the fuel rail. one turn of the key engine starts and appears to be ok an then fuel pump cannot cope with the demand for fuel so engine starts to hunt for fuel .guy seems very sure of the fault .he will return later in the week to fit it and i will let you all know if it has cured the problem
so here hoping and crossing every body part i have to make sure he is correct in his diagnosis.

That could easily be caused by a blocked fuel filter, we’ve had fuel shortages on a few occasions now. The fuel pump in the tank has a strainer on the bottom where it draws fuel from, these get blocked up sometimes. I took ours out and cleaned it.
I have never had miss fire as a result of this, just massively reduced performance- as in 30mph is about flat out!
Hope your engineer is right!

There are plenty of ways a dying TD5 fuel pump can show itself.
