Sounds to me like either a blown head gasket or an airlock.
If you take the header tank cap off, with the engine running, can you see bubbles on the surface of the coolant?
Have you tried bleeding the system? With the thermostat plastic cap off, start the engine and gradually pour more coolant in.
Good luck

It's not just a case of over filling?
With a cold engine your header tank should only be about half full.

Pound to a penny it's your head gasket, I've had exactly that on a few motors including a jeep (booo hisss :D ) which had also cracked one of it's heads.
Only one way to find out, open heart surgery time !!

Think it's your only option m8 unfortunately, here's hoping it's only the gasket.

Hello mate, would be worthwhile getting the head pressure tested, it only costs about £45. My head went in the same place and after testing found that it needed a skim cos it was slightly burned. Regards, rocky

i reckon the head is cracked or warped if its blowing out of the header tank but fingers crossed its just the gasket. good luck

Turners do new heads with valves already fitted for around £450 anyway. Small money considering the effort in taking it all apart, putting it all back together again just to find out it is shot.

When we get a failed HG, we replace the head at the same time as the gasket. (Thats if we don't do an engine swap).

if THE COOLANT IS RISING AFTER FILLING , IT WILL ,WITH THE CAP OFF , IF IT RISES(sorry caps) after temp comes up then cap to blame, if there are bubbles then head gasket , if not then cap could be only problem.

Thanks so much for all your help guys all of you have been fantastic....I had head tested (no cracks and not warped) .....If you ever see a temp gauge start to rise (STOP) i think its just save me a few pounds....Fitted new gasket yesterday afternoon. Driven today with no probs what so ever.....Fingers crossed Its sorted.....Thanks to all of you again ......Rob & Mandy:)

before you go striping it down check your thermostats not stuck shut,i had those symtoms and my thermostat was stuck shut.
wip it out and then try it.
keep all the bits you can cross, crossed, fingers, toes, legs.
