OK I thought that I'd be clever and ordered a pair of Jate rings for Disco II so that I would have something to get pulled out with when I get stuck at Lochgilphead on Sunday:rolleyes:. But when I tried to put them on there is nowhere for them to go. The chassis rail is too high up, if I was going to be towed from them and it would destroy the bumper and any fixing holes are too far forward i.e. under/inside the bumper. Any suggestions for recovery points that will not require permanent removal of front bumper? I wouldn't like to remove the bottom section either as that has my Foglamps in it. All (sensible!!) suggestions welcome;)

Cut a hole in the bumper and fit a blanking plate in it when towing is not required.

Thats always an option but I would like to avoid cutting holes. Besides, What would I attach the rope/shackle to?

Speak to Gemm 4x4 at Larbert on 01324 557735. I believe they've constructed something. I think it needs some bumper cutting though.

Fit the JATE rings and then cut the holes in front of the rings?

Thanks Moonter. I'll call them next week and see what they have to suggest

Hi, GEMM made up a front recovery bracket for my 04 DIsco 2 - its like a big bracket that fits betweent the front chassis rails and then has a tractor hoop that sticks out through the wire mesh section under the front bumper. Only cutting required is the hole in the wire mesh. They made a really tidy job of it and its absolutely solid - has been used quite a few times for snatch recovery from the front - original towing eye would never have taken such stress. GIve Bobby a call at GEMM - it was him that organised it for me - good service.

These are what you are looking for.
Blatently stolen from another site.

Take 'em back. There's no recognised mounting point for them on a D2 and by the time you've manufactured something suitable you might as well make soemthing like the brackets already pictured.

I think that this sounds the best Idea The other brackets do not come down far enough to miss the front valance, going by the round steering protection bar in the picture. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions, as usual;)
