View Full Version : Snorkel for Disco1?

Went today to see the forest. And to drive a bit. It ended quickly, in the first place where I found water :) , the engine breathed some water, yet it was at low RPM so after removing glow plugs got the water out, started the engine, drained the intercooler and even changed engine oil. The hardest part - pulling the car out using hi-jack. And finally the question - as it seems the air intake is rather low in the wing there should be some raised air intake used. Which snorkel? I've seen Safari snorkels, these seem to be good, Paddocks has it... Is this the right choice? Now I have to get the air filter dry...

Firstly, are you sure theres no internal damage to the engine?
My dads got a safari snorkel on his disco, no probs with it in 2 odd years;)

I'm not sure, but the engine sounds OK an runs as usual. Before changing oil I drove a around 10 miles. Yet there were no signs of water in oil and there was no emulsion either. When the engine drowned it was at low RPM an there was no excessive noise, no clunks or any other bad noise, the engine just stopped. After that I couldn't turn it with starter. Now when driving it runs as before. Tommorow have to drive about 60 miles, if the engine survives that - shoul be OK.

brother filled his 200 engine with water and we emptied it out and its been fine since. that was a few months ago. try loossening each injector with it running to see if it makes any difference in the engine noise... if it does i think that can be a sign of a problem. bro filled his at low revs too so he was lucky.
youll probably be ok!
good luck.
oh yeah i have a safari and with plenty of silicone it works well.

What exactly did you mean by right fitting? Which is the right fitting (if it matters the steering wheel is in the left side in my car).
After ~100 miles the engine runs OK, it even is a bit quieter (probably because of the the oil level - I overfilled a bit when I changed the oil).

I think he means the engine type mainly.
If you look here you will see differences if you cick the different ones.

click on the installation guides for diagrams. Its just to do with how it fits on the airbox really.
Even though yours is left hand drive i would imagine the airbox is in the same place but might be wrong. Look at the diagrams and see if it looks like it will work. You can do amazing things with some plastic piping and silicone to get round any problems anyway.
Good luck.
