Calling all Northumbrians (O/F?)

Do you know, or could you find out when you are next out and about, whether this camp site (http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=411415&y=608840&z=3&sv=411500,608500&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf&dn=783) is still open. (By camp site I mean field open for the use of campers - not necessarily a field enowed with facilities). It was originally owned and "operated" by a local solicitor, who would be quite prepared to collect the money 12 months later; it was then operated by a woman who wanted to builld a log cabin toilet block, cut the grass and make a profit etc. (imagine the crazy idea). As a result I fear it has been closed. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Yes that's it, but is it still there. Someone told me it had closed, but I'm not too sure they'd got the right place.

We have camped there three times. Originally the grass was 18 inches high, and we were the only ones there:yay: . The following year was the same. Then, new ownership brought no fires,:snarl: , short, neat grass :snarl: , and having to pay every day.:snarl:

Whatever next :dunno1: :p

But Northumberland is a great holiday location.:yay:

O/F. If this one is now closed, do you know of any other off the beated track, remote, minimalist facilities camp sites there or there abouts, preferably not too far in land. Alnwick/Rothbury is ideal, as I'm sure you will appreciate.

Telephone number

I must have had my brain disengaged last evening. I woke up in the middle on the night and thought about giving them a ring. Doh!!

If you're still there O/F, don't go to any trouble - as Duncia said, I could give them a ring first.

:BigSorry:

Yes its still a campsite, but not a busy one. Apparently the loo building has now been condemned and not being used, but if you have your own facilities then your welcome to stay. There will be a racehorse in the field but if your staying the horse will be fenced off with electric fence wire,
Bad news is its £6 per night...

Want me to try caravan club CL sites in the same area, some of them are just fields with just a tap out in the sticks, and let members erect tents :dunno1:

Hi O/F

Thanks for that. I'm sorry I haven't got back to you earlier. It's been one of those weeks when I haven't had time to do much other than work.

I really appreciate you looking into that, cos as Duncai said I should have rung them rather than get you to run all over Northumberland. But my guess is you wouldn't have offered if you hadn't been in that neck of the woods anyway.

I wouldn't mind any ideas for alternative sites in and around that area. You will appreciate (having seen the field I sent you to) that my ideal site is small and uncommercialised.

I didnt go to Cherry Tree Farm.....I phoned :D

I'm afraid the only sites i've noticed whilst living here are the CL Caravan club ones, they are usualy just a farmers field with just a water tap and sometimes electric hook up and thats it, which is why we like them. Some do allow Tents......especialy if you are a member (PM me details :wink2: )

One such site is at Chatton, nice and quite, small village, good pub in village doing good meals and 10 mins from Wooler :)
£4 per night

There is also....
Major Burton at Felton who has an old manor house and you pitch your van within the walled garden. Very sheltered site, very peaceful and wood walks on the doorstep, owls at night, and the only thing there is the tennis court which he lets you use. NO FACILITIES except water tap and sewage disposal and Electric .
Northumberland Hotel in the village 5 mins away does superb big meals. Felton is a good spot to get to all other destinations :)
Now I have just rung him and provided your not staying for 3 months like we did in our caravan...he'll allow the tent ...price £4 per night :)
PM me for more info if interested.

CL's or Certificated Locations only allow a max of 5 caravans on site...which is why we like them :yay:
