View Full Version : Removing old bushes

Both the LR workshop and the Haynes manuals say "..using a piece of pipe and a vice, gently ease the bush from..." I have an awful lot of crushed pipe to show for it! :p

Now I know that if it says its "gently" in the Haynes manual, it must be near impossible, but there must be a way to get a siezed 10-year old bush out without having to resort to extreme violence and destroying it.

Any top tips?

I take it your talking about a suspension bush?

If so then the easy (but not eco-friendly) way is to burn the rubber out with propane torch then hacksaw the outer ring until it just starts to split then thump it out with a punch! :p

Hi,

A tad more eco-friendly way I've found is to drill loads of holes round/through the rubber. Then using a decent bar twist the inner out and finally slit the outer before knocking it out. Saves on gas too but is a real crappy job.

Cheers,

Thanks for the tips. Actually, I did both of your suggestions already, but I thought it was just me being dull and not knowing the best way.

I feel better.:p

I agree, drill hole through rubber part them hacksaw the casing and they will fall out.

Small tip, put new bushes in the freezer overnight before fitting and they will shrink and go in easier. WARNING wear gloves when handerling them from the fridge, they will stick to you!.
