I posted this where I thought most appropriate however it has moved down the board so quickly most of you guys that I talk to all the time won't even see it. - Please don't move it mods, it is here with the best of intentions.
Hi Guys and Girls,
For the last couple of years (summers specifically) I have been planning to arrange a LR meeting in our area.
What I was thinking of is a camping holiday in one location where LR nuts could all get together and talk Landies as much as they want. I have been a member on here for around four years, and have had some fun chatting with various members, but we rarely get to meet.
Living on the south coast, as I do, I've thought it would be a good place to organise something during the summer, where, as well as getting to meet each other, there would be plenty to do during the day so that it would make a good holiday.
I'm sure most of us have visited Billing or something similar. What I find with events of this type though is that the LR community is so diverse. In the main the Rangies don't mix with the Overlanders, the Series people don't have time for the Discovery folks, etc, everyone is there for the show and it is a very varied mix of people.
I am thinking of something along the lines of an event in June, yes the whole four weeks, the event just being a place where anyone with a Landy can come and camp for anything from one night. It could be a week, a weekend, just the one night, whatever, but you would be certain of being with other Landy people, and more importantly, Landy people that want to mix with others.
June is an excellent time, although I can't promise the weather will be good, the days will be long, the water warm and the beaches relatively quiet.
The site that I'm thinking of using is right next to forestry land, no, no no, there is no off-roading, but great for mountian bikes. Poole Harbour is around four miles away, bring a canoe/kayak, wind surfer, etc (I can point you in the direction of free parking and access to the water). Swanage is also known for its diving, sea fishing, walking and just sheer beauty. As I said, there is lots to do. There are toilets and showers, and a small shop. The field that I'm proposing to use is just outside of the main site and is set aside for groups.
If there is enough interest I would arrange for a marquee so that there would be a place to meet, share a beer, and somewhere as a central point for those that wanted to meet others. Costs for a vehicle, tent, up to four people and pets. if required, would be £10 per night.
Ok, that's the general idea, I'm open to comments and ideas, I think it would make an exciting short break for some Landy lovers, and at £10 a night for the whole family it would be a cheap holiday.
I look forward to some comments, and maybe even some interest.
Happy New Year to you all,
Kevin

Sounds interesting.
Perhaps try to concentrate the tie a bit more so that more people are there at the same time?

Hi recneps,
Do you mean "concentrate the time" ie a shorter period?
Yeah, I take your point but given the amount of interest after only 3 days of advertising I'm more worried about having to turn people away, as I'm sure you are aware, Swanage and the surrounding area are very popular for short breaks. It would appear at this time the weekends will be too busy so there is an option of four weekends to choose from.
The weekdays are more likely to be taken by people staying for 7 days. Several people that are just touring the area have show an interest in overnight stops. Of course, if the weather is good some will want to extend, provision has been made for this.
The overall intention is to get commitment, once this is established, with a small deposit, when one arrives and departs will be dependent on the weather, hence the long period, ie if you just want a weekend break, commit to coming, if the weekend forcast is not so good then wait until next week, the deposit will ensure you get a place. If you love it that much and want to return later in the month, then by all means do.
Some others will be commited due to taking time off work and will come on the dates planned whatever the weather.
I may have mentioned it elsewhere but numbers will be restricted to a maximun of 50 vehicles on any one night.
See - flexibility.
Hope that helps!

Does this mean that you're going to be giving up a whole month to be there to "organise" it all the time or are you just going to pop along from time to time?
Definately interested - live fairly locally (Bath, about 2 hours away) but going to be working in Dorset in June so may end up popping down at various points.

For what it is worth, Yes, I intend to camp for the whole time that the event is on. I'm self-employed so I choose the times of day that I work. As far as "organising" the event, once underway it will look after itself, people will arrive, I'll be around to greet/introduce, advise and talk about Landies, travelling, what to do in the area, etc.
During the day people will be out doing their own thing, as on any ordinary comping holiday, the difference with this is that we'll all have a common interest.
Once the website is finished I'll post a link to it, all the relevent info will be there.
