Hi,

I want to install a split charge + second battery in my 300tdi. In the 200tdi there was a space for the second battery behind the left hand headlamp. The 300tdi has a large air filter which takes up part of this space.

Its a 7 seater which also gets used for transporting equipment so cant really install it in the boot area. Any suggestions on where to put it or how to make space?!

I've seen it posted that to make space you remove the existing 300 air filter box and replace it with a box from a 200.
Then you have room for a second battery.

fitted second battery on a 300 tdi last weekend just removed the plastic pipe from air box to inner wing lots better starting now no problems with airflow

I think removing that pipe will do only good as the air intake level raises a bit. 300tdi air intake is rather low.

I like the idea of removing that pipe - it seems an excessive amount of pipe. But will the lack of pipe mean i need to change the air filter more often?

Your engine will suck in the same amount of air with or without the pipe, or do you mean will the air be cleaner or dirter.

Drawing the air from the engine bay means it is potentially warmer than if drawing from under wing. Does this mean that the effects of the inter-cooler are reduced and your engine is drawing in a lower mass of air?

I meant is it cleaner / dirtier and therefore will the air filter get dirty quicker
