Gearbox Questions

Hi all, my (LT77) gearbox is knackered.. syncro gone on 2nd & loads of wear on the mainshaft/outputgear.. Should I.. (a) rebuild it.. (b) get a recon (c) find a s/h R380.. If (c) will the R380 bolt straight on to my 200TDI.. Any advise would be appreciated.

How confident are you with a spanner? there are loads of LT 77's on ebay, ive been watchin latley thinking i may need one. I would open it up first and have a go at repairing it, but if you're phazed by that prospect, go bidding, I saw one ended a couple of days ago with no bids at 50 notes, in wales... I can give you her ebay link if you want..

Get a recon box, then repair your old one and resell it to recoup some of the cost (if you don't have to exchange it) an R380 won't fit onto a 200TDi without substantial modification IIRC

I think that you'll find a R380 will fit reasonably easily although a mod of some sort is required.
If you are confident then a rebuild is good, if not you could go second-hand, obvoiusly this would be cheapest but you really don't know what you are buying.
