Hi to all my friends at Land Rover forums, u've all helped so much over the past weeks, thank you ! I have one more request, i've just failed my MOT on pitted steering ball (tractor joint) I think they called it, can anyone tell me what I should be paying for one, and how long to fit, i'd like to know as not to get ripped off. Thanks in advance. Discovery 96' 4.0 V8

the reason on the form was i.qoute nsf brake disc covered in oil due to "pitted ball ? or failed seal ?" on steering ball, and when he spoke to me he mentioned tractor joint, any idea ?

Drain the oil, clean it off the brakes and parts, you probably should fit new pads as they will be contaminated.
You can get it retested like that, it isn't leaking on the brakes any more and they work as they should.
You need to lubricate the CV joint inside the swivel ball, so don't drive about until it has oil or one shot grease in.
A kit like this ( for illustration only)

then go to a link such as
http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/DISCOVERY_1/Axle/Swivel_Kit_(with_8mm_swivel_seal)_-_front_axle_to_JA032850.html
you need to know the VIN to get the correct kit.
Labourwise, I would think about 2 to 3 hours a side, depends if the bolts come out OK.
