So here it is, my 2001 td5 ES A.C.E Has gone for a crap. The orange light is on and i have been suspicious of the handling for a while.
So off I go to my land rover specialist, (not dealer though) To be plugged into the test book for 60 of my finest pounds, ive been told that this is the only real way to get a true diagnosis.
Any way, they tell me that it is showing three problems, all pressure related but cant tell me exacly whats wrong,
This leaves me with some choices im told, rip it all out, £1000,
Start replacing it part by part starting with the cheapest, Transducer, at 110 quid. Then block, then this then that etc.
So whats the point of paying extra to be pluged into test book when its just a load of crap.
Is it me or is it all a big con, the way i see it is they are gonna start changing parts they dont even know are defective until it is cured. Very expensive.
Very ****ed off, steve.

PM Jonv8 and tell him what the codes/faults were.
If he can't tell you what's wrong, I doubt many others can.

You've paid for Diagnosis, if they can't fix it, they need to tell you what Testbook said.

I will ask them if i can have them, i saw the paper but couldnt see any codes,
It was text, said like, pressure reading out of range for one, abnormal pressure or some thing like that and some thing else about pressure.
I was hoping it was a transducer fault so i agreed to let them order that in so i can get it changed. They said if that doesnt solve it its prob the block next. It just seems wrong.

:Rant:Seems now that products are designed to fail in the most expensive way possible, or solutions can only be found using dealer equipment.
For example - my c@ppy Pug 206. Coolant pump powered by - timing belt. Pump siezes - scraps entire engine
Coil fails - sends spike back to ECU and blows this up as well. - no HV protection on that end - I wonder why not .
Even my fridge tried it on with a sensor fault - that was buried deep in the foam somewhere in the back. - Replacement cost would be over £200 if I'd called an engineer, and he wuld just replace the control board - that now ignores the sensor!

I removed my air suspension, replaced it with coil springs and sold the compressor and bellows for more than I paid for the springs.

ooh, yeah, I suspected this air suspension was a real scrap :) Causing too much trouble to my peers around over here. Lucky to have one without

Sounds a bit naughty that they charged you £60 but didn't get you any closer to fixing it.
I have a Rovacom and you can perform all manner of tests on the ACE, you can even activate the valves making the vehicle rock. It can even tell you the response times of the valves.
The pressure sensors do fail. Part number is RVG100010, google found them for £75.
The other option is get the anti roll bars from a non-ACE Disco, get the correct idler pulley so you can remove the pump, you will also need a different belt. You will then need to tell the brain that the car doesn't have ACE.
It could also be a blocked filter, unfortunately you need a Testbook,Rovacom or similar to properly bleed the system.
Mechanically the system is quite simple, a pump keeps the oil pressurised, and the valves send the flow in the appropriate direction. The clever bit is the electronics and the accelerometers. The ECUs only cost £45 on ebay.
I think Landrover list P/N for the individual valves too so it's worth exploring(take the block apart... lol ).
All that said you would still need to know the fault codes and then get them cleared.

Having Testbook does not instantly mean you can fix all ills.It only passes info on to the user, who then has to decide what to do with it.
Testbook is a really good tool, very reliable and very capable - a shame Ford stopped it when they bought LR.
Your ACE ecu is one of the only LR ecu's that wipes its fault memory when you key off.Diagnosis should be done via live data, anyone familiar with the system should be able to pinpoint where the fault lies.
