Hi all, another quick question. My 300TDi will not change from 5th back down to 4th, I have to push the stick forwards into 3rd and then bring it back into 4th (which then slots into place fine)

All other gear change combinations work fine.

If it a knackered gearbox or could it be something a bit less severe?

sounds to me like 1 or two springs have cracked on the clutch plate i had the self same problem on a transit.

garage droped the gearbox and found a spring on the clutch had broken, dont know why it caused the issue but it did.

may be worth haveing the gearbox out and inspecting it.

Sounds very much like the bias plate and springs problem - well known on the R380 box.

Parts cost about £7 from an LR dealer and takes about 30-45 mins to complete.

Attack from above by taking the centre console out.

Good luck

I'm with this one too, at least you have to try it first but it does sound very much like it...

Are you able to tackel it yourself? I would offer help if you are local.

Best of luck

Thanks for the replies guys.

I am reasonably competent with the spanners so I expect I could manage it myself. Do you know of any threads with a walkthrough guide at all?

Thanks again for your help so far! :)
