View Full Version : Td5 leaking windscreen?

I wonder if anybody can help - my 2003 Td5 has started leaking at the top right corner (driver side) of the windscreen. The headlining gets wet just at the top of the interior pillar liner, and water also tracks across the top of the headlining above the windscreen and drops onto the steering wheel.
I don't have sunroofs but I do have roof rails. Are these the cause or is it a faulty windscreen seal?
By the way, are there drains within the front pillars as they appear to have a gap in the top of them when you look from the outside. A friends 2003 Td5 has the same problem!
cheers!

I was thinking about filling in the gaps that you mention on my 2001 TD5 as I'm getting a similar "wet patch" on the headlining at the top of the pillar but on the passenger side?
Cheers for now

I have exactly the same problem in the same corner, this has taken 4 attempts to try and fix, the last attempt required the windscreen to be removed and refitted (still leaks but only a little)
Landranger Services who I have been using have been excellent
There is no simple answer as water can get in, in a number of places and run around in the headlining. Autoglass offer a (test your seals) type service which may be worth a bash
Good Luck and break out the kitchen roll!

I had similar problem with low mileage 04 ES, and thought it was from sunroofs. Local windscreen firm checked and found it was the passenger side windscreen seal and added it was a common problem. Fixed it with sealant and never a problem since - and they even did it free as it was such a minor fix!

Sorry to hear of leakiness but this gives me a great chance to tell you about a fab product I discovered last year.
I needed to find a way of keeping a really rusty corroded (no holes just seeping) pipe together for a while and wondered if I| could coat it with something. I thought about paint or melted wax or melting a crisp bag round it. Then I started looking for rubber-type substances. That's when I found a thing called Plasti-Dip. I won't bang on about it because it will look like an ad. for them but take a look at their website and trawl through the customer feedback. I think a lot of us will be able to find a use for it.
Pretty colours too.

I used the one called Liquid Tape. In a small can.
I think it's all the same stuff, just packaged differently or in an aerosol.
It DID work. It dries a bit like the rubberry coating on pliers handles.

I realised the cause of my leaking windscreen when it rained heavily a month after having an autoglass monkey let loose on it :-(
Liquid tape is great stuff for sealing electirical connections
