Can anyone give advice on a leaking sun roof? My Disco series 1 (LHD 1990) leaks from the sun roof. The locking mechanism seems a little damaged due to me trying to close it ever tighter. The rubber around the glass seem to be in good condition but the water still drips. I was thinking about sticking the glass to rubber to try and solve the problem but I am not sure this would work or what glue would work. Any ideas/experience?

I got a disco 2 in october last year and also had a sunroof leaking loads of water in. I tryed new seal, adjusting glass but what did sort it was to remove headlining, take frame out of roof ( trying not to break the water drain tubes that i broke, you can repair them with some tube and mastic). I cleaned all the old mastic from roof and frame, let it dry for couple of hours the glued it back in. I used mastic from car dealer that is used for gluing glass, frames, panels ect onto cars. Ill try and get name of it if you need it. I also removed drain tube assemblys from corners of frame ( you cant get new ones so you have to clean them up). I re glued them with selant and refited roof. Never had a leak since.

If the water is getting in between the glass and the rubber seal, clean the glass surface, clean the rubber seal and smear a heavy coating of vaseline onto the seal surface and close roof.
This will probably seal it and allow you to use the roof in the future.
If it doesn't work, new seal or tape or silicon.

Mine does this sporadically, sometimes it can sit in the pouring rain and not leak a drop, other times I will get Niagara falls from the sunroof switch area when it has only been sitting in light rain.
I must get around to looking at it sometime.

hi all
new to this set of forums.

my roof is leaking on my 1997 300tdi es.

there are 2 sunroofs on it. water flows in down the passenger side a frame in heavy rain and occaionally though the centre sunroof control pannel. i have put a bead of mastic around the edge between the metal roof and the plastic trim of the sunroof. this has on the whole stopped it coming thru the centre of the dash but i still get water flowing down the passengers a fram. is it possible this water is coming from somewhere else.

thanks
ike

Check the seal for the windscreen at the ens of the gutter, it can come away and let water in.

I have a 2001 Td5 and if I park facing downhill the rear roof leaks ; park on a sideslope and water comes out on the seatbelt on the lower side.
Having read a lot of posts I have come to the conclusion that the only way to solve the problem properly is to remove headlining ; then take out both sunroof assemblies , clean off old sealer and reseal the lot ;
one guy who had repaired quite a few said he had never come across a blocked drain tube ;
another owner found that one of the drain tubes had broken where it was attached to the roof - repaired it and no more leaks .
I replaced both seals on a 1997 Tdi and no improvement ;
I think I read somewhere that some of the Tdi's leaked in the roof gutter where sealer had been poorly applied in the factory ?????
