View Full Version : Poor accelaration at junction- 300Tdi automatic.

Hi, just done an 80 mile round trip, in my '96 300Tdi, without any problems. Just before I got home, I noticed that when pulling away at junctions the acceleration was almost no-existent, unless I pushed hard and the kickdown was used. All the rest of the performance is fine.

Anyone had this problem?

Cheers,

Chris.

Yes, mine does this - virtually no response from the throttle, typically at roundabouts, when you most want it! I'm changing transmission fluids this weekend and I'm thinking that might have something to do with it...

Hello boys & girls, Tdi 300 auto - sluggish I have the answer !!!!

I've done the following on my '98 Disco auto and she (in relative terms:rolleyes:) flies.

1. De-EGR - block off the EGR system - cost £6 to £40 depending on which approach you use;

2. De Catt the exhaust - cost £21.25 to £60 depending on which cmponent you use;

3. Replace the the exhaust system for a TDi300 performance straight through exhaust - £35+vat;

4. Replace the air filter - REGULARLY !!

5. Use fully synth engine oil - I use 5w-30 from Carrefour 23 euros for 5 ltrs;

6. Ensure your brakes aren't binding;

7. Clean out the intercooler;

I would defy anyone to say that the 0-40mph time on mine now is sluggish, certainly not a danger when pulling out into traffic.

Cheers
Dave

And remove the viscous fan,

an electric fan will pay for itself.

All good ideas, chaps.

Without modding, does anyone know why this has just started to happen?

Cheers,

Chris.

Check your turbo hoses for cracks or splits

Will do. Any other possibilities?

Checked all the hoses, and everything seems fine. took for a test drive, absolutely no problems at all. Strange!

I have had this problem if I use supermarket fuel or from a certain garage the disco becomes very sluggish and won't pull away unless I hit the kick down.But if I fill up at B.p or Shell there are no problems. To cure it I just put some fuel additive in and it clears it up
I think its either poor fuel quality or water contamination
On top of the recommendations by The Big Lad you could also remove the fuel water trap which is by the fuel tank on the off side of inner chassis as these tend to draw air when they get older

Hmmm,

This hasn't happened for the best part of a month, but it just happened again. It was at a junction, and I accelerated, but nothing happened (or very little). After the throttle decided to respond, I did notice a large cloud of smoke behind me, from the exhaust. It's almost as if I had a blockage or something, then it cleared.

Any ideas?

Chris.

And again when I started her first time this morning. Didn't want to start and then bit of smoke and fine.
