Firstly hello all you disco poeple , i normally live in the defender parts of the forum:biggrin:.

Question on behalf og a friends sister.

Just as i was leaving friends today his sister arrived to say her disco was not very well ,she says that it has now power ,you have to really give it some welly and slip the clutch a bit to get it moving.

The fault came on all of a sudden.I said it may be an injector?? but what the hell do i know about disco's and td5's:biggrin:.

Any suggestions would be welcome(appart from bu99er back off to the defender forum's:biggrin:)

Thanks Mark

This dose open a tin of worms, there are several things that can cause these sort of fault.
How bad was the power loss?
First thing is the fuel supply, Td5's are susceptible to dirty fuel. Filters block up and the strainer on the electric fuel supply pump can get blocked up, this causes power loss and will sometimes cause starting problems.
The Injector Harness under the rocker cover is known to cause all sorts of running problems, the harness suffers oil ingress. This can cause misfire and or power loss. The harness is easily replaced and is relatively cheap.
The other thing to consider is the inlet Manifold pressure sensor, we had one fail, also the end of the sensor gets clogged up with oil and soot from the EGR valve and gives inaccurate readings.
That gives you a few things to research on the forum!
Shout if you want to know more about any of these things, I’m sure others will reply anyway.

Thanks Tom, i will pass that info onto my friends sister and see what they come up with.

Incidentaly ,it does start and run but just needs lots of right foot action to get it going ??.

Cheers Mark

All the things that Tom said and also air flow meters are a common failing and i would also check the turbo hoses for splits or collapsing. These can both also cause lack of power. Lawson

Re-the air flow meter, I think i'm right in saying the ecm uses it to calculate the EGR quantities.
A local main dealer sent ours out with a new one fitted under warranty, only neglected to plug it in! It being un plugged didn't seem to make a scrap of difference to performance!?

Dont hold me on this but i think if its unplugged it goes to a default setting in the ECM. But once reconnected it can get its readings again. Lawson
