Does anyone know where I can locate the MFU in my late 98 Disco 300tdi? Tried glove box can't tell if its there - what does it look like? Tried drivers footwell as per Haynes can only see relays. Does not go into diagnostic mode when holding rear windscreen switch down and releasing within two seconds of turning ignition on. i.e no buzzer bleeping.

Hi, I found stumbled across my MFU on the front of the fuse box (opposite side to the fuses) inside the cab under the steering column. You'll need an 8mm socket to unbolt the box. MFU is a black box about the size of a fag packet. At least it was on my '95 300Tdi.

Thanks, I will look today, I also discovered a body control unit (BCU) which seems to apply to post 1998 Disco's ie. 2000 year (from another problem report). This is a black plastic box next to a silver coloured box, behind the passenger glove box, these are also not described in series 1 Disco manual - Haynes??? so do not yet know if this replaces an MFU??
Have currently lost interior light (door -operation), rear wash wipe, front wipe intermittent, rear heated screen, rear fog light, and occasional front wipers lock on, with no fuses blown.

discodiyer, The BCU is a D2 item, the D1 hasn't got one only a MFU. When I had the dash out there wasn't anything behind the glove box. There is a black box below the glove box on the relay rack which I think is the alarm control.
From your description, all bar the fog lights are controlled or linked to the MFU. Sounds like you may have a wiring issue or a dodgy MFU.
As for the fog lights, did you try them with the headlights on? The fogs are the bottom red lens in the side clusters.
Hope this helps.

Fusable link may have blown they are in the lower part of the engine fuse box access by removing two screws, they protect the cable from the battery to the fuse boxes.
