hi guys ,i am posting this thread 4 a freind as I am usualy posting in the series forum so i said id pick ur brains to see if we can get to the bottom of this problem ,its a 50/50 wether its going to start or not ,its a3.9 v8 with injection ,it has new plugs ,leads, dizzy cap, rotar arm, dizzy, theres plenty of pressure from the fuel, good starter motor/battery,and when its running it runs well ,it has had a compression test and all was good,it idles about 7000,but he tells me the adjustment on the accelerator cable keeps it at its revs ,should it tick over on its own,i had suggested the timing might need adjusting but tells me that a LR garage replaced the dizzy . so i think i got as much info out of him as pos ,if anyone can help in anyway with any suggestions to end this saga we would be grateful cheers from an old deisel series landy head

A tickover a 700 is in the middle of the range so ok. The tickover is controled by the engine management system and is not adjustable only the base idle speed is adjustable.
So the tickover should not be adjusted by the cable. Theres no harm in checking the timing if you have any doubt.
The 3.9's do take 3 to 5 sec to start because the engine ECU has a few checks to make at cranking speed.

My v8 starts almost instantly, is your battery tip top, if the computer does not get sufficent voltage during cranking it will be slow to start, i thnk the figure is around 11.7 volts across the terminals while the engine is cranking

I agree with Mark. even if the battery is 100%, is your mate sure its powerful enough - in terms of Amp output. The disco need 600+ and I think they recommend 650 amp starting power.

Is the air filter nice and clean? Fuel filter?

Good luck
