Ahoi!
Since my renewed engine is getting to be renewed again, this time by reliable mechanic rather than those f****ers in neighboring country, I started to think is it even worth it. I have read much good about the 300tdi "updated" version. Does anyone have an idea how much would cost such a engine and where I could find one? Maybe it is reasonable to fit this engine

If you can get your TDi 300 running correctly, it is a perfectly good, reliable and economical engine .

I agree.
At this point I know that I have to weld aluminium a bit, new pistons, new injectors, probably new timing belt (just because the engine will be out and stripped by this evening) and tensioner/idler, seals and gaskets etc etc. So already 400-500quid for spare parts...

To get any more power than the 2.5 the 2.8 is supposed to get very thusty ...

I looked into one breifely for my disco 2

I'll second that! mine is not a bonifide 2.8 but 60 thou overbored, slight head work, big inercooler, blah, blah blah and fuel consumption is pretty shocking, low 20's and even down to about 16/18mpg when towing! on the plus side though, boy does it tug!
