My 97 Disco 1 has alot of fluid leaking from the steering box. I don't know if the steering box needs to be replaced or if there is a leak at one of the hose connections. Is there a way to check to see where the leak is coming from so I don't have to spend $500 on a new steering box versus just replacing the hoses.
Thanks.

Yes, you have to get down and after you have removed existing traces of oil have a look for the point of the leak. :)

Hi,
We have just cured the Leaky oil seal on our stearing box it was the o ring under the square plate on the top. We did it with Lucus stop leak and it stopped it within 1 hour of putting it in. Saves £500.
Give it a go first what do you have to loose.

Hi there, your solution interests me could I have some more details as I'll be coming to England at the back-end of this week and would like to pick up some of this stuff.
What I would like, please, is:
1. The full name of the product and it's price if poss;
2. Amount required for the job;
3. "How to do"?
4. Where to buy?
Cheers

I had a leak from the exact same place on my TD5. I put a bottle of this in, after pumping out some of the old oil. The leak slowed down but didn't stop. I then added some out of a 2nd bottle a while after this and it has now stopped the leak. It's been fine for months now.
I got a bottle in my local motor factors for about a fiver. I have seen it on ebay also.
Cheers
Andy
