I fitted a EGR blanking kit this weekend and noticed there is alot of oil on top of the engine and round the sides.

It does not look very fresh but I'd like to clean it off and see if it comes back and where from.

I was thinking of using the hot wash (hot water) at the local jet wash garage, keep the engine running and dont point it at any thing electrical.

any one got any recomendations on how and how not to clean it?

there is oil down the sides and on the top of engine but the oil level is still the same.
so i dont think its leaking and if it is its not that much.
just want to make sure.

SO engine running and jet away :)

Yup.. Avoid the alternator and well thats about it.. Pop the engine cover off as well (sound deadening)

yeah and keep the oil filler cap on :D

How easy is it to change the rocker cover gasket?
are they prone to leaking?

Not done one on a 300TDi, but will be shortly. Usually its a 10 min job.. A little more if your cleaning it up. Probably worth checking the tappets and such whislt you have it off :)

rocker cover gasket is dead easy. three bolts and a few jubilee clips on the breather and stuff.
