disco 3 changing spare wheel...very odd or i am stupid

could be that i am very daft ,but i just bought some new wheels and tyres for my 05 disco and got the wheel brace and jack out for the first time,removed the locking wheel nut ,no problem.Next two wheel nuts,no problem then the brace does not fit,close but does not fit the other nuts.they look the same,must have been off at the dealers.I then checked the other wheels and i seem to fit 1 out of the 5 on average.A little bit of gentle persuasion with a hammer(soft) did not help ...not going to fit.Thank goodness i am not in the outback and on my drive in west london.Where am i going wrong ,have i missed the obvious, before you all start ,i know there is a locking one,and they all appear to be the same size......GRRRRRRR

The wheel nuts have probably swelled up it was very common disco2s and p38 range rovers. I have seen 1or2 disco3s with swelled wheel nuts they will probably need changing.Lawson

lawson was spot on with the diagnosis of swollen nuts.it appears the wheel nuts are steel with a shiny capping,when the steel starts to rust it swells expanding the wheel nut making it a 23mm job and your wheel brace will not fit. All this on a 4 year old car .It may be worth you checking yours as this really could leave you stranded...thanks lawson
