Hi what is the best disco for off road 200tdi/300tdi/td5 or are they much the same power wise ?, As i have a 200tdi and as you know they are about 111BHP my Clio 1.5dci had 108 BHP and they could not pull paper, I really want more climb power and how steep With hills can you go . really want to have more of a off road disco then road as it be nice to get up in the hills away from the real world at weekends. thanks :)

A disco in low first will climb most hills off road at tick-over. My mate towed my 109 up my steep drive in reverse on tick over :)
BHP is not what you want off road, torque is what you want, and thankfully all the diesel discos have bags of this :) Which is why Diesels are usually better off road than petrols, requiring less revs to make steep climbs.

Only driven one auto off road (land cruiser) and if I was buying a disco for off roading I would look for an auto  SOOOO much control :)

to get the highest torque, use low box... this lowers the ratio, giving more torque....
if you have a desiel engine (200 or 300) then maximum torque (200 ftlb) is reached at around 2300, which on my disco is where the turbo starts to kick in.
Hope thins helps

You can also lower the gearing again by fitting a defender transfer box, playing with wheel sizes as well. Just don,t expect to do 90 on the road with it:D

Uprating the intercooler may help.. Although If you haven't used it off road yet give it a go as it is.. it will probably surprise you with what it can do as standard!

You will find you,ll have plenty power low down when you need it, deisels are great for offroad use in low box, virtually climb anything with the right tyres on;)

I would be looking at a new box, 2" lift, good tyres, cranked radius arms and trailing arms maybe. And then a full service.. including timing belt if it has no history!

The possibilities are endless, its all about compromise!

mine is standard apart form general grabber At2 tyres and a safari snorkel and it does well off road, and as you say with it being a diesel it just crawls up things with easy ;)

Cranked rear arms are essential with a lift, unless you dont mind changing the chassis bushes after every off road session?

Don't know much about the coilers really :) Only that my mates have lifts and have bought cranked arms :)

Unfortunately on full axle drop, theangle of the radius arm, through the chassis mount is so great that the bottom edge of the rear bush and top edge of the front bush get crushed to the point where they split! Rear wheel steering on the way home!nice:eek:
