Hi, folks, I was recently unlucky enough to experience the un-Loctited oil-pump bolt problem, and daft enough to drive about 4km with no oil pressure. My local LR dealers here in Spain said that the pair of times it's happened here in the area, a set of new big end shells has been enough to restore the engine to health. (Obviously depends on how long it's been run in that state.)
I fitted a new oil pump c/w stiffener plate and a set of new shells to my '99 EU2 engine, although the crankshaft didn't look pretty, and 20km later, I'm getting a clatter, which I presume to be a big end gone. Initially the engine ran sweetly enough, although the last two times I've started her up, she was reluctant to start well, and chucked a lot of smoke out.
I'm now considering a new crankshaft or a used or recon engine.
Any advice/ experiences? I have read that the turbo can suffer when run with no oil pressure: any ideas?
