What's the general opinion about the 6,000 mile oil change for the TD5 engine.....the Haynes manual says to renew just the oil but should I change the oil filter cartridge at the same time (Haynes suggests that this only needs to be done every 36,000 miles)?
Cheers for now

TD5 engines only need serviced every 12000miles or 12months. If you are changing the oil, change the rotor filter every year and the cartrage filter every 3 years.Lawson

Thanks for the confirmation, I thought that 6,000 was a bit low for an oil change these days but it's my first Discovery so wasn't sure!
Thanks again

I change mine at 10000 intervals, new rotor filter every change, full flow filter every second change, cant get used to these modern oils and long service intervals and no matter what the manufacturers claim I still honestly believe that there is no better protection for an engine than frequent changes.

I change oil and all filters at 8000-10000 miles, just to be safe!
Seems stupid to put nice clean oil through a dirty filter, just change the lot, its 15 mins and a couple extra quid.

I change the engine oil and ALL the filters every 5000mls, and the other oils get changed annually unless I've been wading, in which case they get changed as soon as I get home after playing.
I use fully synth oil and the info I've found shows that even fully synth starts to lose some of it's effectiveness after 5000 mls.
I was wondering about this myself, coming from a SAAB and 300Tdi background. My Disco 2 has 67000 miles on it and has been serviced acording to the maufacturers schedule.
SAAB 9000's, 9-5's and 900's/9-3's are manufacturer recommended changes at 12000, but all the forums recommend 6000; The seive strainer in the sump needs cleaning at about 90000miles too. Under this regime the motor's good for at least 250000 miles.
It was only recently that SAAB recommended Fully-synthetic oil ....... manufacturers don't always get it right first time.
Who else changes early, and what is the oil of choice?

Running on Halfords semi synth 5w30 at the minute.
Used to use a fully synth made by Comma but apparently the td5 doesn't really need it, halfords is nearly half the price.
