Burnt my starter out last night, took down a bunch of numbers from it but it looks like the 'LRS' number's the one to use?
It was a lucas LRS550.
If any others would fit - it needs to be able to turn over a 3L diesel lump.
Cheers ;)

Hi calum, it's a Mazda engine of some kind, I think it's a 3 litre HA model (based on the perkins 4.108).
Pattern would be fine, whatever's cheapest!
I'm going to take it apart tonight and see if my current unit is serviceable.
All the cross reference numbers are at http://www.woodauto.com/Component.aspx?Ref=STR25030
£191 is WAY too much, and I've found one available local to me on the shelf for £140 which is still too much. I was hoping to find someone with a scrapper lump that had one in but when I posted this ad I didn't realise it was for the mazda as it's made by lucas which immidiately suggested land rover to me.
Any help still appreciated :)

does it look anything like this?
Clicky Link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Delco-27MT-Starter-Fits-Perkins-Diesel-4-108-4-107_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742Q2em153Q2el1262 QQcategoryZ50441QQihZ009QQitemZ190275171426QQtcZph oto)
if not, probably the best place to go is a mazda owners forum
Hope this helps

Sorry, my mistake, it's a licesnsed perkins 4.182 copy, not 4.108.
The casting number is the same as This One (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SL124-Perkins-4-108-4-203-Lister-Pre-Engaged-Starter_W0QQitemZ220350982366QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK _CarsParts_Vehicles_CommercialVehicleParts_SM?hash =item220350982366&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318)
Which also suggests it's for a 4.108 (probably where I got the mistake from), however mine has 13 teeth so that's not the right one.
That suggests the starter in the link in my previous post is the correct one (Linky (http://www.woodauto.com/Component.aspx?Ref=STR25030)) as it has the correct number of teeth.
It seems the two are identical other than the number of teeth.
These 3L HA engines are out of the mazda T series light trucks. T3000 I guess, for the 3 litre version.
I'll see if I can find a mazda owners club, cheers :)
