I replaced my front wheel bearing the other week after the old one fell apart (see pics).
I fitted a new one, every thing looked right. all night and tight.
then the next day it started to wobble again. hoping it was the wheel bearing going lose, i went down to my local land rover place and picked up a 52mm socket and got a mate to mod it (see pic).
striped the front hub down again and i was right, the hub nut was very lose. so tightend it up again.
its been fine for the past week (tightend it up last wednesday) but it just started to nock again, only a very slight nock. grab the top of the wheel and wobble, you can hear a small nock with about 1mm of play.
why would the wheel bearing being going lose again? i nocked the lock plate over, just how i found it and torqued the nut up to what it states in the haynes manual.
any ideas?

Threads on nut/stub axle ok?
Did you knock the outer races of the bearing fully into the hub?
Definately not overtightened?
Its a strange one mate!

I think i did. every thing seemed ok.

how would i know? i tightened it to the footpounds it says in the haynes manuals.

As said about the outer race.... when you knock em in you hear the sound change when its as far as it goes.
Are you positive this time its the wheel bearing again? Jack wheel and see if there is play side to side too.

Only if i can pick up the 300 once you fixed it and keep the 200 :D

Yeah, it deffo made a different noise.
i'll jack it up tomorrow and take a look.

I may be wrong but I seem to remember torque setting being something like 50NM,loosen off then 10NM?
Personally I nip them up,slacken then adjust up again.Never had trouble

I think the near side front wheel bearing is going as well.
its starting to make a noise.
well, i hope its that side and the wheel bearing.
I'll get it jacked up next week.

Have you got 2 nuts, a lock washer and the thrust washer?
The flat on the thrust washer stops any turning effort reaching the lock nuts. The flat on the lock washer ensures the knock over part on the nuts can't move.
Sounds like you haven't got the thrust washer.
If you only have one nut, there is a collapsable spacer between the bearings, you torque that up and don't turn it back at all.
