Easiest way if you ills are already rotten is to chop the bottom of the sill right off, removing all the crap.
Clean up around body mounts/bottoms of door pillars then jack a length of 120x60mm box up inside, weld i back to all your good steel along thecuts, cap the ends and bob's your aunties husband?
You can then refit the original plastic trims to keep it looking stock or weld on tube for tree sliders
Just done the mrs 300es,I hate patches!
Alternatives are jackable sills like scorpion do which have large U shaped brackets on the inside which go either side of original sill and bolt right through
or
some cheap versions mount up in pretty much the same way as genuine side anchors(steps). These are crap and move/bend with small impacts

3mm?
I've got jackable sills/rock sliders fitted to mine. I'll try to get some pics. I had a couple of holes on the sills patched before I fitted them but today I notice another hole in a sill. Will this be an MOT failure despite having jackable sills?

I fitted a pair of sills to my Disco 1 supplied by RDH Engineering Ltd in Corby (advertised in LRO) purpose-made for the job from approx 120x65 box section 3mm steel and very fine too. No tree sliders fitted to mine, but come complete with brackets for chassis mounts etc. Cost nearly 2 yrs ago circa £200 and another £500 for local body shop to fit. Did an excellent job and in my view worth it. RDH can fit them as well and if I recall were going to charge around £550 for supply and fit. Good luck!

right, i've got two lengths of 3mm 60x120mm box section. I removed the plastic trim and put it in the bin. there was a small hole which grew into a much larger hole as i stuck my foot in it :D
tomorrow i'm attacking it with the grinder and half a million plasma discs. then it's welding time. I'll post pics when i'm done
cheers!

i did this on my rangie last year - some photos of it all here:

I used some big angle to make the body mounts as well, to avoid creating rust traps (again ) - you can see them in the pics.
Great pics, they'll last for years now.

i built my own out of 1/4 inch steel. 3/16" steel would be plenty thick enough. sorry, don't know those measurements in mm off the top of my head.
i can jack up the truck with them, land on them, scrap them across rocks or trees, etc... and they hold up great.
