auto trans going 'clunk'

When going from power to coasting there is a 'clunk' and a jar to the truck. Cruise set - going over a hill there is a 'clunk' and jar as it starts to coast. The reverse is the same when going from coast to power.

Thought the universals needed freshening so put on new universals plus rubber doughnut - some better but still 'clunk' and jar.

Does the auto-trans need rebuilding, a sensor replaced, lubricate throttle linkage, or ( ? )

I would check the gear box oil level, it may be low.

Which model is it and year?

Above the back axle there is an "A" frame with a balljoint. When this joint is worn it gives this symptom.

It is a 2000 Disco II with 137,000 miles.

The oil level was the first thing checked - it was OK. Then changes oil and filter even though the oil color was OK before the change.

As the big lad says it could be the rear A-frame, or possibly the propshaft UJ's?

First of all the 2000 has springs and no air.

I can not find the 'A frame' in the Manual within the rear suspension section.

I have checked the fitness of front and rear suspension points and found no slackness. Everything was firm even with pressure.

Should there be some thought toward the Transfer Box ?
