I need to seal my oil pan as i think its leaking. some one has sealed it with normal silicone seal, not meant for motor use.

I plan to re-seal it tomorrow and i have some "loctite 5920 premium gasket maker/copper silicone sealant" stuff here, do you think it would be up to the job or would i be better buying some lr stuff?

It says its a high performance stuff, resists temperature up to 275'c (continuous), very good oil resistance, high flexibility.

"typical uses" on the side of the box says oil sump, inlet manifold, timing chain, differential cove etc"

Sounds like it would do the job :)

The correct sealant is RTV sealant. Take the oil sump off making sure you use a piece of cardboard to push the bolts through so you know where they go as they are differing lengths. Clean the old oil out of the bottom and clen the mating surfaces very well.

You have to loosen one end of the steering stabiliser bar to drop the sump.

This is an easy job. I would use the correct stuff and not risk something that might not work.
