We have a 200tdi Auto and we got about 138 Miles from 5 galons of diesel and we work that to be about 27.6 MPG , Now we had ST Coopers on 235/70/16s,, with 35psi All round do you think the coopers will give us less MPG as they are 60/40 TYRES & we are running a K&N filter ,, thanks

I think that 27.5mpg from a TDi200, albeit auto, is appalling !!

We used to get 36mpg daily, over 40 on a run with a best ever of 47mpg from our manual box 200.

I would say that before you spend too much more, you vehicle could do with some attention.

Off-road tyres won't help with mpg either.

Be aware that on TDi200 there were two tank sizes, early ones had 81ltrs and later ones had 89 ltrs.

Blimey. That's impressive. I can't get 47mpg out of my Ford Fiesta!! I'd say that's incredible fuel economy. ;)

27.5mpg sounds fair enough to me for a 16 year old vehicle that weighs 2.5 tonnes, especially as it's an auto with aggressive tyres.

I use to get 350 Miles from a full tank from my 200 TDI. Average of 25MPG although it did have 350,000 on the clock.

You must drive real gentle to get over 40mpg from a 4 speed auto Discovery, don't know of anyone else ever getting near that.

I'd have said anywhere from 25-32mpg would be pretty good going and about what most should expect.

Reading is not one of your stronger points is it? I did say from our manual gearbox TDi 200.

Over 35mpg in any Tdi Disco no matter the gearbox must be close on a miracle?

How did you get 47mpg? (or how did you work it out ;):p ) :)

We used to get 36 mpg day in day out. That was a mixture of work BUT very little heavy town work. Did include towing anything between 500 to 2000kgs.

40mpg on a run every time, no sweat. Always kept to 60mph or below (national speed limit here is 56mph on A roads) and kept her very well maintained - new full set of filters and engine oil every 5000mls. Used fully synth oils in the transmission ie gear & rans boxes, plus axles. EVO1 & 2.

Best ever of 47mpg, gentle driving, long distance of about 400kms if I remeber correctly

Always do all fuel consumption calcs the same way: fill til I can see the level of liquid, do the miles and fill again to the same level.

I always drive anticipating the conditions ahead so I hardly need to use my brakes. Others make get there first - so what !!
