OK , Wife took Discovery to local garage to get a puncture fixed and new MOT. She took it down the road as I have just had knee op and cannot drive yet (need an auto!) . So, phone garage who say that they have done it all but that they had to push the car 'cause it wouldn't unlock with wife's fob and had to use key in door lock to access, but alarm goes off. Strange because that is what she used to get there. However, I'm feeling a bit better (but still unable to drive) so wife took me down to garage today in her car and we tried my fob. Still no luck. Wife had appointment so we had to leave it. I phoned local dealer who said that I would have to use EKA code. That means that you put the key into door lock and go through a complicated sequence of key turns which hopefully should reset the alarm and keys. We'll try it this afternoon.
Question: Is it something the garage has done? or does it just happen sometimes? I've had the car for 5 years and it hasn't done this before. Garage said they have not had the battery disconnected or anything and it seems well charged up
Any suggestions? Its just that I wouldn't like it to do this if I'm out in the middle of nowhere!
Too much electronics!

I get a feeling its a little quirk they like to throw at you now and again - mine did it sitting in the drive once after sitting for only 10 minutes !

Continuation of Saga.... Went down to Garage, Went through all the instructions to disable immobiliser etc, which all worked and drove Discovery home ok. But now it will not lock with key fob, it will only lock and set alarm if I put key in the lock and turn it. Also it only unlocks driver's door. I need to turn it again to unlock the other doors:(.
Does Anyone have any idea how I can get fob to work again?

If it makes any difference, It's lost its radio code as well. (havn't tried to reprogramme it yet)

I think the garage might be fibbing if its lost the radio code as well. it's one of the signs of the battery having been disconceted....:(
will have a look through the manuals for you...

I suspected that too  Thanks for having a look for me,
had similar problem when disconnecting battery to work on car. turned out the fob had to be initialised with the ecu. see post 19th feb. remote locking. i needed to do this a couple times in the 8 sec before i was successful.

I regularly have this locking problem with my Disco 2, normally the key fobs work but if the car is left for any length of time the fobs stop working. to get round the problem i put the key in the door and lock it again, this Brings the system back to life and all is well.

Tried all above suggestions ( and a few others!) I found out that battery was flatish, so charged it up. Still no joy. Doors will only open and alarm will only turn off by turning key in lock. Any other "magic cures"!! Really starting to annoy me now:(

Hi it looks like your battery is to blame for the problems you are haveing either it has been disconnected or somethinglike this anyway you will need to get the fob reprogrammed either you will have to take it to landrover or if you have a good locksmiths round they can do this for you i had the problem on a rover 213 the code you put in will only disable the alarm and immoberliser but you can drive the car i would have a word with the garage about meeting some of the costs hope this helps buckie
